Lighthouse Oceanfront Resort – It’s for the Whole Family

A few months ago, I got an email from Kevin Wojcik and Roman Sada asking if we could chat on the phone about a new family tennis resort off the Washington coast. After speaking with them, then meeting Roman in person at the BNP Paribas Open, I realized I needed to share this little gem with the ParentingAces community. What follows is a series of questions and answers between Roman and me to help give you a better sense of what the Lighthouse Oceanfront Resort has to offer. If you are looking for the perfect spot to take your tennis-playing family this summer, definitely check it out!PA: Where is your facility?RS: The Lighthouse Oceanfront Resort is right on the Pacific Ocean in Long Beach, Washington, near the mouth of the Columbia River. We’re 2+ hours from Portland and 3+ hours from Seattle. If you haven’t done so already, please go to lighthouseresort.net for a full description of the facility, and funbeach.com to get a sense of the area. There’s nothing like it in the continental U.S.PA: What types of tennis programming do you currently offer?RS: Pretty much what you’d expect. Men’s and Women’s clinics, morning and evening. Junior instruction, ages 6-10 and 11-16. Doubles strategies clinic. Cardio tennis experience. Tournaments for singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Private and group lessons.PA: What new tennis programming is in the works?RS: We’re calling our new program, which you and I talked about in Indian Wells, CPI – Concentrated Private Instruction for Juniors. We’re also, per your suggestion, holding our first of many UTR tournaments, coming up on April 18.PA: Tell us more about your one-on-one coaching opportunities?RS:  Maybe a better way of defining CPI is, six days of six-hour private (not group) instruction a day with a top (not assistant) teaching pro. It breaks out to two hours in the morning on fundamentals, techniques, strokes and spin. Two hours in the afternoon on strategies, hitting, rallies, live-ball drills, court sense and in-game situations. With sessions in between on conditioning, rehab and nutrition. No group training involved, no other instructors involved. Players will learn more here in a week than months anywhere else.PA: What are your biggest challenges at the facility and how can the ParentingAces community help?RS: First, local. Tennis has never been big in this area. High school sports are football, basketball, baseball/softball, volleyball, track, wrestling and golf. No tennis. Yet. We have the only indoor courts (built five years ago) for miles around. But, even with good publicity, our program is only just now beginning to catch on, beyond club members and hotel guests. Second, national. Our resort/tennis facility is possibly the best in the coastal Pacific Northwest. Our instructor (said with all modesty) has world-class experience. We really have something here, and we’d like to share it with the one specific audience who could benefit most. Your audience. ParentingAces can help by getting the word out about CPI, tracking the response, and posting reviews from parents/juniors once they’ve experienced it. By the way, relative to your recent post, we strongly recommend a parent be present for all phases of instruction.PA: How can ParentingAces readers reach you?RS: Email [email protected] or [email protected]. Phone at the resort 360-642-3622 or Roman direct 561-853-6281. Facebook www.facebook.com/Lighthouse-Oceanfront-Resort.PA: Anything else you’d like us to know?RS: Lisa this resort, this town, this whole area is the friendliest place I’ve ever been. Nature adventures beckon everywhere you turn. A beautiful facility, great owners and manager. Enthusiastic response from everybody who comes here to stay or play. There’s no stress, just positivity and kindness. It’s literally a breath of fresh air. I’m really happy here. And if it’s not clear from my answers, I’m on a mission. To introduce more local kids and parents to this beautiful game (which is happening). To let juniors/parents across the country know a great opportunity exists for them here (which is where ParentingAces comes in). And to build a first class teaching academy through enhanced personal instruction. With your help, our little community will become home to a national junior tennis destination.
