Illustrated Introduction to the Rules of Tennis

rules of tennis

A HUGE thank you to Coach Susan Nardi for sharing this awesome publication on the rules of tennis from the USTA (circa 2008).  For those of you with beginning players, please share it with them either by printing out a hard copy to keep in their tennis bag (recommended!) or by loading onto their tablet/iPad for easy reference. Believe me, it will come in very handy as you navigate through the world that is Junior Tennis!

With chapters on Preparing for Play, Court Conduct, Starting a Game, Scoring, Serving, Playing a Point, Calling Lines, Playing Doubles, Glossary of Terms, and Tie-Breakers this little guide is the perfect jumping off point for kids new to our sport. It is written for the youngest players but contains information useful to players of every age and stage, including us adult players! In fact, now that I think about it, I’m going to share this with my ALTA and USTA League teammates, too!

I wish I had known about this little gem sooner so I could’ve shared it with the ParentingAces Family before now. But, better late than never, right? If any of you know of other valuable resources out there, please share them in the Comments section below. I hope USTA will put out more content like this little booklet to help us all do a better job, whether as parents, coaches, or both!
