You probably know Mary as a top-notch commentator on ESPN/CBS Sports. She has won numerous awards for her work including a Peabody Award for the HBO documentary Dare to Compete: The Struggle of Women in Sport; Broadcaster of the Year by the Women’s Tennis Association (1981, 1985); “Best Commentator” by World Tennis Magazine (1986), Toronto Star (1986) and Tennis magazine (1988–91); Sports Emmy Award for her feature on the Hoyt family; and the 2010 Dick Schaap Award for Outstanding Journalism (Mary was the first female recipient of the award).
What you may not know is that Mary is a very accomplished tennis player as well, having great success in the juniors as well as professionally. She shares her experiences growing up alongside the McEnroes in New York and now as a sports parent to her own children. Enjoy!
