Another Day, Another Runner Bean Tour Barcelona, Spain |
Barcelona, Spain
After a quick breakfast at the hotel, we again met Runner Bean Tours in the Placa Reial for a tour of the Old City and Jewish Quarter. After yesterday’s wanderings, we figured we’d be seeing a lot of things we had already seen, but we were looking forward to learning the history behind the sites anyway! Our tour guide, Gorka, didn’t disappoint! He’s from Northern Spain and did a great job teaching us about Paca del Pi, the Jewish Quarter, Saint Jaume Cathedral, Cloister San Felip Neri, the Roman City, the Medieval City, Placa del Rei, and Santa Maria del Mar Cathedral. At the end of the tour, we asked Gorka for a recommendation of a great locals-only tapas bar where we could watch the Rafa-Ferrer French Open Final, and he sent us to Bar Jai-Ca in Barceloneta. It was packed with a line out the door! We waited for 2 seats at the bar and asked the bartender to change the channel from basketball to tennis – she was happy to accommodate us! After Rafa won the first set handily, we decided to walk to Passeig de Gracia in search of a piece of pottery to take home for ourselves. After making our purchase, we walked around the corner to Taverna de Barcelona to watch the end of the match. Our waiter was so sweet and gave us the poster advertising the final that had been hanging at the entrance. We went back to the hotel and crashed for the night.
