Junior Coaching & Development

US Open Musings Day 13

As I mentioned yesterday, one of my favorite things about being at the US Open is meeting people I’ve previously only connected with electronically. For several days, my friend, Bill Kallenberg, had been telling me I should do an interview with Lori Riffice. Lori is a Tennis Parent who also happens to work with USTA Player Development. These days, her focus is the 12-year-old girls, so she’s coaching the youngest members of the PD program.

Lori’s son, Sam, plays at the University of Florida. You may recognize Sam’s name as part of TennisMentors.net, a program discussed on the ParentingAces Podcast last year (click here to listen). Sam was the top recruit out of California and the #2 in the country according to Tennis Recruiting, so Lori has been through this Tennis Journey at the highest level as both a parent and a coach.

Here is an edited audio file in case you have trouble hearing Lori in the video. My audio editing skills are still pretty elementary, so I apologize for that, but at least you will be able to hear this amazing coach’s insights!

For the latest Junior results, please see Colette Lewis’s latest ZooTennis post here. The Junior Singles and Doubles finals both start at Noon, and you should be able to watch live on the ESPN app or follow livescoring on the US Open app. I will be discussing these matches – along with the chaotic Women’s Final – in the last installment of my US Open Musings tomorrow.
