Our Last Baby Is Leaving the Nest

Atlanta, GA

We got up early for our Southwest flight from Atlanta to San Jose (via a brief stop in Los Angeles). Of course, the amount of luggage we had far exceeded the trunk space in any of our cars, so we ordered up an Uber SUV to take us from our house to the airport. After re-packing all of our clothes in a big moving box (thank you, Lindsey!), and making sure Morgan hadn’t left anything essential, we headed out.

The flight itself was pretty uneventful. We did, however, realize that the rental car we reserved in San Jose would never hold the luggage plus all the packages we had waiting at Santa Clara. When we got to the Sixt rental counter, we immediately requested a one-day upgrade to an SUV so we could schlep all Morgan’s stuff to the hotel and to campus the next day. It was a good thing we did!

After getting the car and checking into the Courtyard in Milpitas, we drove to the Santa Clara University campus so Morgan could show Matthew around and pick up the packages he had ordered from Target and Bed, Bath, & Beyond. That part was a little dicey, but we eventually got everything loaded into the back of the Cadillac SUV (Matthew and I got to meet SCU’s new Athletic Director while waiting for packages in the mail center), saw the campus (including the tennis courts!) and the buildings where Morgan would have his classes this quarter, then headed into San Jose for an early dinner at MIZU Sushi.

After dinner, we drove back to the hotel, brought all the boxes to Morgan’s room, then crashed for the night.
