The Intercollegiate Tennis Association is proud to announce that the 2018 Oracle ITA National Summer Championships Powered by UTR is now a prize money event.

Now, before y’all start asking about prize money and NCAA eligibility, here’s what the NCAA rules say (emphasis added):

Can a student-athlete accept prize money?

In all sports except tennis, a student-athlete or prospective student-athlete may accept prize money as long as the amount of the prize is less than or equal to his or her expenses for participating in the competition, such as meals or lodging. The prize money may not pay for expenses of parents or coaches.

In tennis, a prospective student-athlete may accept up to $10,000 per year in prize money. Once he or she has accepted $10,000 in prize money in a particular year, he or she may accept additional prize money on a per-event basis as long as the amount of the prize does not exceed his or her expenses. A current tennis student-athlete may accept prize money as long as the amount of the prize is less than or equal to his or her expenses for participating in the competition.

Please note the rule differs for those players going through the recruiting process and those currently enrolled in college as a student-athlete.

A total of $20,000 will be distributed among the men’s and women’s singles and doubles divisions at the National Summer Championships, hosted by TCU. The 2018 event takes place August 10-14 at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

In addition to the prize money, the men’s and women’s singles and doubles champions receive a wild card into the ITA All-American Championships main draw, while the finalists earn a wild card into the qualifying draw, provided they are a returning Division I student-athlete.

The ITA is now accepting entry submissions for the 2018 Oracle ITA National Summer Championships Powered by UTR. Registration closes July 23rd. The event is classified as “open,” meaning anyone can apply for entry and players do not need to participate in any prior ITA Summer Circuit events to enter. The event is open to junior, high school, and college players alike. It is important to note that the Top 5 finishers in the ITA Summer Circuit Points Race do gain automatic entry into the main draw, along with up to $600 in travel reimbursement for the event. To apply, all prospective competitors must be a current member of the ITA.

The 2018 Oracle ITA National Summer Championships Powered by UTR will feature a 64 singles draw and a 32 doubles draw for both genders. A qualifying singles draw of no more than 64 players will be held on Friday, August 10, with players competing for one of 16 qualifying spots. Qualifying and main draw singles will also both offer a one-match consolation for all first-round losers.
