Day Three: Shopping and Show

Day Three: Shopping and Show
New York City, NY

New York City, NY

It’s Sunday morning, everyone needs a shower, so I decided to get up a bit early and walk over to Essa-Bagel to bring back breakfast and coffee. The line was enormous! A very sweet guy helped me and loved the fact that I was from Atlanta – he told me, “Y’all come back now, y’hear?” as I was leaving! After breakfast, we took the subway over to the Theatre District to try to get “rush” tickets for today’s matinee performance of Rent. When we arrived at the theatre, there were only a few people waiting for the lottery, but by the time they were ready to pick names for tickets, there were well over 100 people waiting for the 34 available tickets. Needless to say, we weren’t chosen – so sad! – but we were able to buy tickets for the next day’s evening performance – we got fabulous seats! Oh well, more time for shopping today! We hopped in a cab over to the Chelsea Market to look at all the beautiful food, then walked down through the Meatpacking District to look at all the beautiful clothes, then made our way over to the Barney’s Warehouse Sale on West 17th Street. What an experience! The sale is held in a huge warehouse, filled with security guards who check your bags as you enter. Then, you tell them what you’re shopping for, and they direct you to the appropriate floor. Of course, we were after women’s clothing and shoes, so we walked into a mecca of designer goods marked down 50% and more! It was quite the scene – racks and racks of clothing, shoes, and accessories crammed together with hundreds of shoppers weaving their way through the mish-mash. No dressing rooms – just women stripping down and trying on dresses, jeans, suits, whatever. It was so much fun! I found an incredible pair of black dress sandals, and Savannah found a great pair of jeans. We paid then made our way into the West Village to make a bigger contribution to NYC’s economy! Shopping, shopping, and more shopping! As we were leaving Olive Bette’s (a very cute shop on Bleeker Street), one of the salesgirls told us that Carrie Bradshaw’s stoop (from Sex & The City) was right down the street. We headed across Bleeker to find it, but it took us a couple of tries taking pictures on the WRONG stoops before we finally located the RIGHT ONE! Thank goodness for some very nice local guys who pointed us to the right one! After we were shopped out for the day, we took a cab to the Theatre District to see Legally Blonde. What a fun, cute show! It was exactly what you would expect – great costumes, very fun music, totally pink and happy! After the show, we walked over to 46th Street for a late Italian dinner (and a glass of Chianti for the moms). It was raining, so we hopped in a cab back to our hotel for a good night’s sleep.
