Cartagena, Colombia
Following another amazing breakfast at our hotel, we decided to take a short walk on the beach then ditch the main pool downstairs and head up to the rooftop deck for some adults-only sunbathing. The main pool downstairs was gorgeous but the water was freezing and there were several families there with young children. I love kids, but we were really looking forward to some quiet couple time, so the upstairs deck, which is for over-18-year-olds only, seemed to be a good choice! We hung out up there for several hours before showering and taking another Uber into some different parts of the city.
Our first stop was Getsemani, which is a younger and hipper part of Cartagena. There is a lot of colorful grafitti adorning the buildings, and we were even offered some local “ganja” (which we promptly declined!) while walking around! We stopped and watched some young kids playing soccer in Trinidad Plaza before stopping at a tiny little place called La Licciola for some amazing empanadas. Afterward, we passed by a juice bar called Belyu that looked yummy, so we stopped in for a cold juice. We walked a little more then hailed a cab to take us to yet another part of town called Bocagrande.
Boy, were we glad we didn’t wind up booking a hotel in this area! The beaches are nice, but the area is super crowded and touristy. There were all manners of shops and restaurants including things like McDonald’s and Burger King. Yuck! We quickly decided it was not for us and got back to our hotel and La Boquilla pronto!
