10-and-Under Tourneys

tennis-balls

Are you looking for an alternative to the mandatory Red-Orange-Green ball tournaments for your 10-and-under player?  The following is a list of events that will use a yellow ball on a regular-sized court.  In the Texas section, under-10s will have to play in the 12s if the tournament is sanctioned and only if there is not a 10s draw.  As more events are added below, I will be sure to include the specific age-group restrictions as well.

If you need more information on a particular event, please contact the tournament director at the links below.  For the tournament directors out there, you can email me details on your events at fitmom@bellsouth.net, and I’ll add them to this page.  Have fun out there!

Here is an email submitted to the Chairperson of the Junior Tennis Council USTA – Texas, Rick Meyers, by Blanche Roddick

    To: Rmeyers14
    Sent: Thu, Jan 24, 2013 11:44 am
    Subject: convention speaking spot

Rick, I would like to be allowed to speak to your committee during the
upcoming meeting in Dallas in February. I have grave concerns about the
10&U mandate being so limited to talented players. Everyone does not
wear the same size shoe. Everyone does not shop at the same stores and
everyone does not drink the same beer. Why? Because there are choices.
Please develop your green courts to be the best program in the world.
Build the number of players in Texas to number one in the nation. But
please do not be so limiting to players who want to try a different
way. Your program should be strong enough to survive without a killing
mandate. Promote your program but allow anyone who wants to play a zat
play without being dismissed by a “qualifying list”.A Zat is a
beginning level- don’t let a mandate determine who can play. Please
let me know if you accept my request to speak. Thanks Blanche Roddick

We will wait for the response…..

Absolutely! I’m happy to include any event that offers up a full-court, yellow ball opportunity for the U10s.

Down here in Florida, there are some sanctioned 10-under Full Court GREEN-DOT ball. (My daughter is playing in one this coming weekend.) Last year, the age group division was 11-under for full court green-dot. I guess it makes more sense for the 11 year olds to have to play in the 12′s, and the under-10′s get their own division that is at least NOT short-court nerf ball.
